How fast do fingernails grow?

Healthy nails grow about 0.12 inch (3 milimeters) each month or 1.4 inches (3.5 centimeters) each year. It takes approximately three months for a whole fingernail to be replaced. The middle fingernail grows the fastest, because the longer the finger the faster its nail growth. The thumbnail grows the slowest.
