How long does it take light from the sun to reach Earth?

Sunlight takes about 8 minutes and 20 seconds to reach Earth, traveling at 186,282 miles (299,792 kilometers) per second, although it varies with the position of Earth in its orbit. In January the light takes about 8 minutes 15 seconds to reach Earth; in July the trip takes about 8 minutes 25 seconds.
