How much energy is saved by raising the setting for a house air conditioner?

In general, for every 1°F the inside temperature is increased, the energy needed for air conditioning is reduced by three percent. If all consumers raised the settings on their air conditioners by 6°F, for example, 190,000 barrels of oil could be saved each day.
