In 1980, the Federal Trade Commission’s Appliance Labeling Rule became effective. It requires EnergyGuide labels be placed on all new refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, dishwashers, clothes washers, room air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, and boilers.
