What are moonquakes?

Similar to earthquakes, moonquakes are a result of the constant shifting of molten or partly molten material in the interior of the moon. These moonquakes are usually very weak. Other moonquakes may be caused by the impact of meteorites on the moon’s surface. Still others occur at regular intervals during a lunar cycle, suggesting that gravitational forces from Earth have an effect on the moon similar to ocean tides.
