What are the natural predators of the penguin?

The leopard seal (Hydrurga leptonyx) is the principal predator of both the adult and juvenile penguin. The penguin may also be caught by a killer whale while swimming in open water. Eggs and chicks that are not properly guarded by adults are often devoured by skuas and sheathbills.
