Nerves and Senses

What are the two subsystems of the nervous system?

The nervous system is divided into the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord, while the peripheral nervous system consists of all the nerve tissue in the body, excluding the brain and spinal cord. Communication between the central nervous system and the rest of the body is via the peripheral nervous system. Specialized cells of the peripheral nervous system allow communication between the two systems.
