What distinguishes gold and silver as elements?

Besides their use as precious metals, gold and silver have properties that distinguish them from other chemical elements. Gold is the most ductile and malleable metal—the thinnest gold leaf is 0.0001 millimeters thick. Silver is the most reflective of all metals; thus, it is used in mirrors.
