What is Moore’s Law?

Gordon Moore (1929–), cofounder of Intel®, a top microchip manufacturer, observed in 1965 that the number of transistors per microchip—and hence a chip’s processing power—would double about every year and a half. The press dubbed this Moore’s Law. Despite claims that this ever-increasing trend cannot perpetuate, history has shown that microchip advances are, indeed, keeping pace with Moore’s prediction.
