What is cinnabar?

Cinnabar is the main ore of the mineral mercury. Its cinnamon to scarlet-red color makes it a colorful mineral. It is produced primarily in the United States (California, Oregon, Texas, and Arkansas), Spain, Italy, and Mexico. It is often used as a pigment.
