What is the fastest snake on land?

The black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis), a deadly poisonous African snake that can grow up to 13 feet (4 meters) in length, has been recorded reaching a speed of 7 miles (11 kilometers) per hour. A particularly aggressive snake, it chases animals at high speeds holding the front of its body above the ground.
