When did aluminum recycling begin?

Aluminum recycling dates back to 1888 when the smelting process was invented. Since aluminum is so valuable, companies involved in manufacturing aluminum were motivated to discover ways to make aluminum from aluminum. Recycling aluminum saves 95 percent of the energy required to make new aluminum since it eliminates the mining of new ore. It is estimated that 73 percent of all aluminum ever produced is still in use.
