Did the Rehnquist Court in Lawrence v. Texas indicate how it would rule on the issue of same-sex marriage?

The Court did not decide the issue of same-sex marriage in Lawrence v. Texas. However, the Court did state that the Lawrence case “does not involve whether the government must give formal recognition to any relationship that homosexual persons seek to enter.” This was the closest that the majority came to speaking on the same-sex marriage issue.
