The Taft Court (1921–30)

Introduction

What was unusual about Taft’s confirmation as chief justice?

The U.S. Senate approved Taft’s confirmation the same day he was nominated by President Warren G. Harding on June 30, 1921. In part, this was considered a tribute to a former president, but confirmations also took place much more quickly than they do today.
