How far can a dust storm travel?

Central Asia and China have annual dust storms in their desert areas almost every April, and the dust from these storms has been known to reach as far away as Hawaii. On the other hand, dust storms from Africa have blown dust all the way to Florida. Blowing dust can actually be a good thing, as it helps distribute soil nutrients around the planet. For example, it is known that rainforest soil in the Amazon is replenished from African soil, as is soil in the American southeast.
