The Sun

How much sunlight is reflected by snow?

Since white reflects snow, it should be no surprise that snow cover bounces sunlight back into the atmosphere and into space at an efficient rate of about 80 percent. Environmentalists speculate that global warming may be accelerated further because, as snow melts, more and more of the Sun’s energy will be absorbed by the ground.
