What Mie scattering?

German physicist Gustav Adolf Feodor Wilhelm Mie (1868–1957) discovered how small particles in the atmosphere scatter light waves. Called Mie scattering, this effect is important to meteorologists studying how clouds and haze scatter light (meteorological optics).
