What are the hazards of dust storms?

Dust storms regularly occur in such places as the Sahara and Gobi Deserts. Not only do dust storms destroy farms, they also invade homes and other buildings and can cause health problems ranging from stinging eyes to lung and other respiratory problems. In 1995, for example, eight people were killed on the New Mexico-Arizona border when a dust storm blew across a highway.
