What is a Profiler?

Profilers use electromagnetic waves the same way that sodars use sound waves. This strategy has proven ideal for penetrating deep into the upper atmosphere, where meteorologists can then determine wind speeds at altitudes 5 to 10 miles (8 to 17 kilometers) high.
