What was the Great Flood of 1993 |
Heavy rainfall caused river flooding in 1993 that was so severe in Iowa that, when observed by NOAA sensors, the state looked like a sixth Great Lake. The Mississippi River was seven miles wide at some points, and the Missouri River also spilled over its banks, causing nearly $20 billion in property losses, 48 deaths, and the evacuation of 85,000 people.
