What are the functions of the vagina?

The vagina is a muscular tube that extends between the uterus and the external genitalia. Its main functions are: 1) to serve as the passageway for the elimination of menstrual fluids; 2) to receive the penis during sexual intercourse and hold sperm prior to its passage into the uterus; and 3) to serve as the birth canal for the fetus during childbirth and delivery.
