What is semen?

Semen (from the Latin, meaning “seed”) is the combination of the secretions of the accessory glands and sperm. The composition of the seminal fluid is:

Secretions from the seminal vesicles: 60 percent

Secretions from the prostate: 30 percent

Secretions from the epididymis: 5 percent

Secretions from the bulbourethral glands: less than 5 percent

Sperm: about 1 percent.
