Did the Israelites have a place to worship?

Because they traveled so much, the Israelites did not build a place of worship on a specific piece of ground. Instead, they built a transportable place of worship, the Tabernacle, or Tent of Meeting. It served as the earthly dwelling place of God until Solomon built another temple around 1000 B.C.E. God gave Moses instructions for it when he was on Mount Sinai for forty days and forty nights. The time Moses spent on the mountain foreshadowed the time Jesus, many years later, spent in the wilderness being tempted.
