When the five kings of the Amorites banded together to conquer the Gibeonites, Joshua came to the aid of the Gibeonites. God threw the Amorites into a panic. Then God pummeled them with hailstones. “There were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.” (KJV, Joshua 10:11) Also on that day, God made the sun and moon stand still until the Amorites were subdued. One of the Amorite kings, King Adoni-zedek, ruled an impressive city that, once conquered, would prove vital to the development of the Israelite nation. The city was Jerusalem.
