In many churches, Jesus’ final entry into Jerusalem is observed on Palm Sunday. The event is memorialized with special songs and the waving of palm fronds. Some churches burn the fronds and save the ashes for next year’s Ash Wednesday services. On Ash Wednesday, pastors use the ashes to make the mark of the cross on the foreheads of congregants.
