How was Antioch important in spreading the gospel? |
It was in Antioch of Syria that preaching the gospel to Gentiles first picked up momentum. Saul and his friend Barnabas spent a year there, teaching many people. The number of Jesus’ followers increased greatly. Perhaps it was no surprise then that “the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” (KJV, Acts 11:26) Christianity was known also as The Way. (Acts 19:23)
