If God is all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, and ever-present, why did God rest on the seventh day of creation?

The Bible does not say why God made a point of resting. God could have instructed people to observe a day of rest and not done so himself. After all, God is God. Perhaps, though, God rested on the seventh day to emphasize the importanceof the behavior. God modeled the behavior for people.
