The Pentateuch

Why did God forbid Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?

The Bible does not say why this tree is off limits. It just is. Also, the possibility exists that there were two special trees in Eden. “Out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” (NRSV, Genesis 2:9) Some Bible scholars think this means that there were two important trees in Eden, while other Bible scholars think that the two names refer to one tree.
