Jesus knew about the woman’s chain of husbands and her current live-in boyfriend, and told the woman so. The woman was amazed, and called Jesus a prophet. Also, the woman told Jesus about her faith: “‘I know that Messiah is coming’ (who is called Christ). ‘When he comes, he will proclaim all things to us.’”(NRSV, John 4:25). Jesus assured her that he was indeed the Messiah for whom she waited. The woman called other Samaritans, and told them about Jesus. The townspeople believed Jesus, too.
