Old Testament

The Pentateuch

What happened when Pharaoh’s daughter found the baby?

“She saw the child. He was crying, and she took pity on him. ‘This must be one of the Hebrews’ children,’ she said.” The baby’s older sister was standing nearby, and asked Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?” (NRSV, Exodus 2:6–7) The sister went and called her mother. In that way, the baby’s mother nursed the baby she thought she had to give him up. The baby stayed with his mother until he was weaned. At that time, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter.
