What happened when Samson told riddles?

Nothing good came out of Samson’s riddles. At his wedding feast, Samson promised his companions fancy clothes if they solved his riddle, “Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness” (KJV, Judges 14:14) Samson did not think his companions would be able to figure the riddle out. However, his new wife coaxed the answer out of him. Then his wife told her people the answer to the riddle. Samson got mad and killed thirty men of the town. He took their clothes and settled his bet. After that, he gave his wife to his best man.
