What is papyrus? What is bitumen?

Papyrus is a plant that grows in marshy areas. In ancient Egypt, papyrus was used to make rope, sandals, mats, and paper. The English word “paper” derives from the word “papyrus.” Bitumen is a black, solid, lumpy mineral deposit. In ancient Egypt, it was used for waterproofing and for mortar.
