The Pentateuch

What is the setting for events in the Bible?

Events in the Bible are set in what is now known as Israel. Because so many events in the Bible are expansive and epic, it is easy to imagine that the events are set over a wide area of land. Actually, the opposite is true. Over the centuries, the names and borders of the region have changed many times, so determining an exact extent of the land area is difficult, if not impossible, to do. The events described in the Bible were set in an area of roughly 6,000 square miles—about the size of the state of Connecticut.
