What kind of man was David?

When David was introduced, he was “ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to.” (KJV, I Samuel 16:12) He was religious, musically inclined, shrewd in military matters, and just an all-around smart man. He had flaws, but those became manifest later.
