What special steps did the Israelites take in order to memorialize the event?

The Israelites took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, one stone for each of the twelve tribes of Israel. At their next camp, they set up the stones as a memorial to God’s miraculous help as they crossed the Jordan.
