What was the official charge against Jesus?

Pilate’s soldiers wrote the charge down and nailed it to the top of Jesus’ cross for everyone to see. The charge read, “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.” (KJV, Matthew 27:37) Essentially, the charge was treason.
