What was the significance of the plagues God sent?

The Bible does not address this issue, but some scholars say that God picked these plagues specifically because each plague represented one or more of the many Egyptian gods. There were hundreds of gods in the pantheon of ancient Egypt, so there are many possibilities for linking them to the plagues God sent. By using those ten specific plagues to demolish the physical landscape of Egypt, God demolished the spiritual landscape as well. Some possibilities are as follows:
