Gospels and Acts of the Apostles

When did Peter betray Jesus?

After Jesus was arrested and taken into custody, a servant girl saw Peter standing nearby, and said to him, “You also were with Jesus of Galilee.” (NIV, Matthew 26:69) Peter denied it. Another servant girl said the same thing. Peter denied it again. Then some bystanders confirmed what the servant girls said. A third time, Peter denied knowing Jesus. At that moment, a rooster crowed. Peter remembered Jesus’ words, and wept bitterly. Later, Peter became a founder of the Christian church.
