Cecil B. DeMille (1881–1959). DeMille was made famous by his creation of lavish movie epics, many of them about events in the Bible. One of the movies that was especially popular with the public was Samson and Delilah (1949). Victor Mature and Hedy Lamarr played the starring roles. King of Kings (1927) was a silent movie about the last weeks of Jesus’ life. Most of the movie was filmed in black and white, which was the norm for that era. However, DeMille, who was noted for his creativity, filmed the scenes dealing with Jesus’ resurrection using the new and expensive Technicolor.
