Gospels and Acts of the Apostles

Why did the wise men go to Bethlehem?

King Herod summoned the wise men to find out from them the exact time of the star’s appearance. Then King Herod ordered the wise men to go to Bethlehem. He said, “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him, too!” (NLT, Matthew 2:8) Really, King Herod wanted to know where Jesus was so he could kill him. When the wise men left King Herod to start for Bethlehem, “the star appeared to them, guiding them to Bethlehem.” (NLT, Matthew 2:9)
