In many translations of the Old Testament, the word “lord” is written in two different ways: LORD and Lord. When “LORD” appears in scripture it means that in the original Hebrew the word “YHWH” or “Yahweh” was used. “YHWH” is believed to be God’s proper name and means roughly, “he creates” or “he causes to be.” When “Lord” is used in scripture it means that in the original Hebrew language, the word “YHWH’ was to be understood as “Adonai” or “Elohim”, words which mean “Lord” and “God” respectively.
