How much weight can an ant carry?

Ants are incredibly strong in relation to their size—and they don’t even have a skeleton. They can carry objects ten to twenty times their own weight, with some ants able to carry objects up to fifty times their own weight. In fact, ants are able to carry objects over great distances and even climb trees while carrying such objects. In some cases, this is comparable to a 100-pound (90 kilogram) person picking up a small car, carrying it 7 to 8 miles (11 to 13 kilometers) on his back, then climbing the tallest mountain while still carrying the car!
