How is a capital different from a capitol

The capital is a city and the capitol is a building. The capitol is located in the capital. To remember the difference, think about the “o” in capitol as being the dome of a capitol building. Capital cities are often the largest cities in a country or region.



Barcelona, Spain, hosted the Olympics in 1992. Hosting the Olympics is a matter of national pride and brings economic benefits, such as the jobs made from building this stadium.
