Can I deduct local property taxes?

According to IRS Tax Topic 503—Deductible Taxes, homeowners may deduct all local property taxes they pay during the filing year. If payments are being made on your behalf through an escrow account, you may only deduct those payments for property taxes actually paid, not money used to replenish the escrow account.
