Insuring Your Home

How can I save money on my homeowners’ insurance?

The easiest way to save money on your insurance is to increase your deductible, from say $500 to $1,000 or higher. This will lower your monthly premiums by as much as 25% for your coverage. You may also consider obtaining several quotes before you decide on an insurance company. You may save even more if you group several different policies together with the same company. Check with your insurance agent to see what kinds of discounts are available if you move all of your policies to one company. Many insurance companies offer additional discounts for installing burglar alarm systems, fire alarms, and smoke detectors, retrofitting your house with storm windows, or fire-retardant barriers to minimize damage due to fire. Check with your insurance agent to see if these additional discounts are available.
