Local Taxes

What types of taxes can cities impose?

In addition to the normal property taxes cities and counties impose on residences, approximately fourteen states have allowed cities within these states to impose many different forms of taxes that may affect the earnings you make from investments. These taxes may include local flat income taxes, local school district taxes, local bracketed income taxes, resident and non-resident income taxes (for people who work and earn income in the city subject to the tax), transit/transportation taxes, and education-related taxes on income.
