The Future

Why do companies have a vesting period?

This vesting period allows a company to reward long-term employees, and penalize employees who may not remain long with the company. Some vesting is immediate, while other plans follow a graduated period, increasing ownership in the plan by 20% each year for five years. This is all determined in the fine print of your employer’s retirement plan document.
