What is Eliade’s approach to mythology? |
In his 1959 The Sacred and the Profane and many other works, Eliade, like Jung, stresses the importance of archetypes in myth. Furthermore, while finding an essential division between the sacred and the profane, he speaks of the reality of myth as an expression of the sacred and suggests that the profane achieves true value only through the mythical. It is religious behavior that takes the participant back to the sacred—to the mythical time.
