Rutherford B. Hayes

Early Career

After law school at Harvard, what did Hayes do?

He became admitted to the bar in Marietta, Ohio, but then set up a law practice in Lower Sandusky (later called Frémont), Ohio, with Ralph P. Buckland. His uncle Sardis and his cousin John R. Pease lived in Lower Sandusky. He handled cases in this region, but also had time to travel to Texas and other parts of the country.
