Grover Cleveland

Early Career

After losing the race for D.A., what did Cleveland do?

He briefly formed a law partnership with Isaac K. Vanderpoel. However, Vanderpoel left to become a high-ranking police official. Cleveland then joined forces with attorneys Albert P. Laning and Oscar Folsom (the father of his future wife) to form the law firm Laning, Cleveland, and Folsom. By all accounts Cleveland prepared well and excelled as an attorney.

President Cleveland married Frances Folsom while he was in the White House. He was the only president to marry while in office.
